Local Traffic Management
Interoute's Local Traffic Management service is typically deployed to handle large numbers of users connecting to a website. It allows the creation of resilient solutions, and improves performance by enabling server workloads to be distributed across multiple servers capable of meeting the request.
The service continuously monitors servers within the pool, directing connections to the most suitable server and automatically directing traffic away from servers which are experiencing problems or fail completely. As demand increases, additional servers can easily be added to the load balanced pool.
Interoute's intelligent caching functionality stores frequently accessed content locally on the load balancer, within a memory cache. This function offloads repetitive traffic from web and application servers, serving content from the cache, significantly improving response times and reducing load on servers.
Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Offloading
The use of Webservers for the encryption and decryption of SLL traffic has a significant performance impact on the servers, and increases response times. Additionally, managing SSL certificates on multiple Webservers is inefficient. Interoute's SSL offload capability moves the processor intensive encryption and decryption tasks from the Web servers to the more efficient load balancer, providing huge performance gains. The SSL offload function also allows the SSL certificates to reside on the load balancer, so certificates are managed in a single location.
Once a user has established a session with a server, it is often necessary for all connections from the user during its connected session to remain with the same server. Interoute's session persistence service enables this functionality, so the user can experience an uninterrupted and continous connection with a single server.
