Interoute’s digital platform supports Cloetta’s move to Microsoft 365.

Founded in 1862, Cloetta is a market leading confectionary company. Its candy, chocolates, jelly beans, nuts and chewing gum are sold in more than 50 countries around the world. Cloetta is growing fast, and as it acquires new businesses it is critical that its IT infrastructure is flexible enough to quickly integrate disparate IT systems and can adapt to new needs. From product development to its IT infrastructure, Cloetta embraces innovation.

Cloetta is the name behind the biggest confectionary brands in Sweden, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands and Italy. With 2,500 employees located in 14 countries, it needed a new ICT strategy to support changing network usage and an increasingly dispersed mobile workforce. It chose Interoute to help stay ahead of the change.

Cloetta is always looking for new, smarter solutions and was an early adopter of Interoute Cloud Connect (ICC). Its ICT platform needs to be flexible and evolve as its business needs change. As local offices will migrate to Microsoft Office 365 and begin to utilise an increasing number of cloud based applications it was clear that Cloetta needed a network solution that could support a more digital way of working. A key requirement was that the infrastructure solution needed to be able to incorporate mobile working through Internet based applications integrated with its secure critical data systems held in the corporate network.
Interoute’s core digital backbone with ICC deployed at the edge gives local offices fast internet access to the applications they need in a secure, controlled environment integrated with the core MPLS network to carry Cloetta’s critical data traffic.
ICC devices were installed into 26 sites across Europe, each integrated into the VPN while providing secure local internet breakout for local applications and cloud based services. Each ICC device has an in-built firewall, network acceleration software and dynamic path selection to route and prioritise application traffic for optimal performance, even across the local internet.

With so many users in the field, Cloetta’s applications and systems have to be fast, flexible and accessible regardless of the device or location.

From booking orders at customer sites, to communication and collaboration using Skype for Business, application performance is crucial.

Microsoft services have a huge geographical spread that can’t be covered by a single network. ICC helps Cloetta maximise the use of its local internet to supplement its corporate network in the most cost effective way.

Interoute Cloud Connect (ICC) gives Cloetta full control of how it routes and prioritises traffic across its network, an important feature for the organisation.

Its network traffic is separated into three dynamic paths. MPLS IPVPN is used for critical traffic such as its ERP system, video and voice traffic which are depended on throughout the organisation. Non-business critical traffic is optimised and accelerated using another path.

This path uses a secure tunnel over the public internet to deliver low latency access to cloud based applications, ensuring a better user experience.

Finally, low priority public internet activity is also passed through ICC to ensure it’s secure.

The result gives operational stability combined with cloud based agility.
